We took a natural pattern from Forest Park and abstracted the pattern in architectural drawing, using tangent lines, shadows, condensed lines.

We then took our drawings, and abstracted a portion of our drawing into a basswood topography.

Orthographic drawing in plan and section of basswood topography.
The basswood topography was then surfaced with a wire module related to the initial natural precedent.
Final observatory drawings. I chose to explore and observe the phenomenon of the tree leaves shaking in the wind and the small ripples of the water in both sight and sound. In every level of the observatory there is a new experience of either seeing the leaves and hearing the ripples of water or seeing the ripples of water and hearing the rustling of the leaves in the wind.
Final model photos, made of basswood sheets, craft wire and fasteners, and metallic tape.
